Sharon Brahms, RN, CMT
I was born in Los Angeles and moved to Iowa when I was 9. I became interested in helping people at an early age, which led me to pursue a nursing career. Inspired by the healing power of touch while taking care of my patients, I became interested in alternative medicine and natural remedies and began to study herbs and Yoga.
After enduring several Midwest winters, I moved back to Los Angeles and helped initiate Life Flight Southern California. This was the first hospital-based emergency air transport service in California. The next five years working as a flight nurse were very rewarding.
Subsequently, I moved to San Francisco and as time went on, I became more interested in integrative healing methods. I enrolled in the World School of Massage and Healing Arts, where I received certificates as a holistic health practitioner (HHP) and holistic massage therapist (HMT).
After practicing in these fields for some time, I decided to extend my holistic practice by enrolling in the Institute for Health and Healing's (IHH) Integrative Medicine Education program at California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) where I received a certificate in hospital based massage. After graduation I continued to provide gentle comfort and care massage in the hospital, supervised the massage interns and provided massage in the IHH clinic.
Today, I maintain my private holistic healing practice; provide Nursing assessment and massage at Laguna Honda Hospital, provide Senior massage at residential care centers, provide massage therapy for children with medical challenges in their homes through By the Bay Health, teach Infant massage, and volunteer with the Missionaries of Charity (Mother Teresa’s order).
I live with my husband in San Francisco and enjoy the time we spend with our daughter. I love sunsets, walks on the beach, hiking, International travel; and last but not least, I love getting a massage, especially on my feet.
